Junior NLP Engineer
A midsize, venture-backed AI studio delivers bespoke language intelligence to finance, healthcare, retail, and media partners. Multidisciplinary squads ship production models weekly, value clean code, and champion continuous learning.
What You’ll Do
- Craft resilient text-processing pipelines that tokenize, normalize, and vectorize multilingual data sets.
- Train and fine-tune transformer-based models (BERT, RoBERTa, GPT-family) for classification, summarization, and question answering.
- Evaluate output with BLEU, ROUGE, and F1 scores, then iterate for measurable lift.
- Debug latency bottlenecks—profile GPU/CPU usage, refactor critical paths, slash inference time.
- Document experiments in clear, reproducible Jupyter notebooks and internal wikis.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers to automate dataset versioning and feature stores.
- Partner with Product Managers and UX Researchers to translate user stories into deployable language services.
- Support CI/CD pipelines—write unit tests, review merge requests, monitor staged deployments.
Tech Stack You’ll Touch
- Python 3.11+, spaCy, NLTK, Hugging Face Transformers.
- TensorFlow 2.x, PyTorch 2.x, Keras.
- Docker, Kubernetes, Git.
- AWS SageMaker, Lambda, Step Functions.
- FastAPI, Flask, Grafana, Prometheus.
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Linguistics, or related field earned at an accredited U.S. institution.
- 0-2 years of professional experience or relevant internships in NLP or machine learning projects.
- Proficient in Python and Git workflows; comfortable on Linux or macOS terminals.
- Familiar with deep-learning concepts: embeddings, attention, gradient descent.
- Confident using NumPy, pandas, and scikit-learn for data wrangling and analysis.
- Clear, empathetic communicator—able to explain model behavior to non-technical peers.
- Growth mindset—eager to pick up Rust, Go, or Scala when performance demands.
- Eligible to work in the United States; remote within EST–PST time zones.
